During their prime, Fleetwood Mac was bringing in more than $100 million for one song. Stevie Nicks continues to enjoy success with her solo career, rivaling the numbers she made with Fleetwood Mac.
In terms of a reunion, that doesn't appear to be in the works, especially following Christine McVie's passing. In the following, we'll take a closer look at how a Taylor Swift song inspired Stevie Nicks, and solidified her decision not to reunite with the group.
We'll also reveal how the other band members felt after Christine McVie's passing, including Mick Fleetwood.
Mick Fleetwood Didn't See A Path Forward Without Christine McVie
Christine McVie's passing was an emotional one for the members of Fleetwood Mac. In fact, Mick Fleetwood revealed that he didn't see a path forward or a reunion of sorts without McVie alongside the group.
“I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris (McVie),” Fleetwood revealed. “I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”
It was a tough moment for the group, particularly Stevie Nicks as the two shared a very close bond behind the scenes. In addition, Nicks wasn't aware of McVie's sickness at the time of her passing.
Nicks wrote in her tribute, "A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975, had passed away. I didn't even know she was ill... until late Saturday night. I wanted to be in London; I wanted to get to London — but we were told to wait."
"So, since Saturday, one song has been swirling around in my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so, I'm singing it to her now. I always knew I would need these words one day. It's all I can do now," Nicks wrote on Instagram.
In terms of a reunion, it seems like Nicks is on the same page as Mick Fleetwood following McVie's passing.
Stevie Nicks Was Inspired By Taylor Swift's Song, You're On Your Own, Kid
McVie's impact on the group was profound, and Nicks agreed that seeing a path forward without her was too hard. Nicks revealed that she relied strongly on her bandmate. “Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend.”
Nicks would go on to reveal that a certain Taylor Swift song, 'You're On Your Own, Kid,' proved to be a major influence on her decision given that it summed up her relationship with McVie.
“You’re On Your Own, Kid,” and the line, “you always have been.” Nicks said, “That was Christine and I. We were on our own in that band. We always were. We protected each other. Who am I going to look over to on the right and have them not be there behind that Hammond organ? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to.”
The two had a major connection, and it would appear as though Nicks will continue on with solo acts moving forward.
Stevie Nicks Also Revealed That Using Christine McVie's Songs Wouldn't Be Right

Given all the hits created by McVie, it would be very hard for Fleetwood Mac to tour without her. Nicks in particular revealed that it would be too hard to sing her songs without her by the group's side. She tells Forbes, “She wrote all the really super pop hits. None of the rest of us could write those songs,” Nicks said.
“What would happen is we’d have to take the songs out, like we did when she actually retired for 18 years. We couldn’t re-create those songs. So we became a much more hard-rock band.”
Mick Fleetwood was among the other band members to issue and emotional tribute after McVie's passing.
"This is a day where my dear sweet friend Christine McVie has taken to flight.. and left us earthbound folks to listen with bated breath to the sounds of that 'Song Bird'... reminding one and all that love is all around us to reach for and touch in this previous life that is gifted to us. Part of my heart has flown away today.. I will miss everything about you Christine McVie. Memories abound... they fly to me."
Her impact on the group left a lasting legacy that won't be forgotten by both the fans and the band members.
